Barre's Hope Cemetery

Head north out of Barre on Merchant Street and after a few miles you'll come upon a very special Vermont treasure. Resting peacefully along a gently rolling hill is the Hope Cemetery, where you can find some of the finest examples of memorial design and craftsmanship in the world. As the "Granite Capitol of the World," Barre has always enticed some of the finest stone craftsmen to its borders, and some of their best work has gone into memorials for their loved ones and themselves... and ultimately, Hope Cemetery.

Hope Cemetery was established in 1895 and based on the plans of nationally-known landscape architect Edward P. Adams. Originally covering 53 acres, it now features some 65 acres of gardens and memorials. We recently were able to spend some time in this special place, and have put together a virtual tour of some of the best that Hope Cemetery has to offer.
